What is within a person determines what they do in life – whoever can see what is within themselves can change it. If what is within is negative, then outcomes that derive from it can be expected. Likewise, if what is within is spiritual, then life can be lived in accordance with that.
Negativity within comes from the different subconscious states that can be referred to as egos, which are pride, anger, greed, depression, worries, etc., that lock each person into the program of nature. Each ego is self-centered and governs the individual beyond their knowledge. To get knowledge about them, they must first be seen. Whoever can’t see them will never actually uncover them and will always be trying to deal with the symptoms and not the causes.
The spiritual part within is found in consciousness or the essence and manifests in the awareness of the present moment. That’s why you can feel more spiritual when aware in the present moment. Feelings of love and peace come from the consciousness – it is the real “you” when you strip away the thoughts, feelings, and emotions. It is what continues beyond the body.
It is submerged by the subconscious, by the egos however, and it needs to be consciously developed and activated for it to manifest properly within.
Most of one’s psychological life is spent in subconscious animal drives and in thoughts, but the subconscious states (egos) can be gradually removed and the consciousness with all its spiritual faculties freed.
To remove them it’s necessary to have the correct techniques and firstly to be able to see them. If you don’t see them, they continue to exist beyond your knowledge or reasoning. By seeing them you uncover them, get knowledge about them and can step out of them into awareness. Seeing alone is not enough to permanently remove them, but it is the first step.
To look for different inner states, be aware, see the feeling inside you, and that’s the state, the ego. Then as you’re aware of it, you’re seeing where it is. They occur in different parts that we can refer to as centres: they are the mind, emotions, sex, movements and instinct. By observing we are seeing the manifestation of a subconscious state within these areas.
When you feel something, if it’s an emotion, it’ll usually be around the area of the solar plexus. If it’s lust it’s in the sexual centre. If it’s a thought, it’s in the mind. The others, they’re movements and instincts, so you’re not really going to see a particular centre for those two as they affect such a range within the body, but you can still be aware of their manifestations within the body. So these are the distinct centres, the main areas to look at.
Being observant you see what is clouding and altering your psyche and awareness. Ideally you would be able to think clearly when you wanted. If there are any emotions present, or if there is a daydream going on, then you’ll be able to see them if you are aware and looking inside. Being aware, you should have your thoughts directed upon what you are doing.
Asking, “Are there any egos in my mind?” or “Do I have something in the emotional centre?” is not self-observation. What self-observation is, is to be aware of any coloration of feelings or emotions upon the present moment, anything which alters it and aware of the kind of thoughts you are having.
If you are changing fundamentally, you get to a point along the spiritual path where you can actually detach yourself from the mind from then on; you’re not caught in the wheel of the mind anymore.
To make self-observation work, get to awareness. Then it’s not intellectual because it’s perception. You’re then seeing the ego, the emotion, the feeling.
If you want to know how awareness works, understand that you have to think about something to do it, so it’s a matter of following what you are doing without trying to artificially stop thoughts, which is unattainable.
To intellectualize is to think about the ego or the emotions, but it’s not really seeing them. By just thinking about the egos that are there is to stay in a continuous line of thinking and never break out of it. To break out, observe within and be aware.
You can try that now to illustrate it. Just be here and see if there are any emotions present. If there are, clear them, and just be here. Do the same thing if you’re daydreaming, clear it, and just be here – without getting lost in thinking about being aware.
In this way you are observing yourself and bringing yourself back to the present moment.
Q: Could we have permanent awareness just by concentrating and being aware of everything that we do all the time?

Belsebuub: Even though temporarily someone can be aware through concentration, through just sustained effort, the subconscious is going on underneath, and then once they lose that concentration the subconscious and the wheel of thoughts pour in. Then everyday life and problems arise. You only have to identify yourself with that problem for a moment and you lose the self-remembrance – then all the same defects are back, all the same egos are back.
To remedy this observe yourself, see the egos that come up in the day and learn how to actually remove them, until they’re really gone from your subconscious.
There is an extra help which is sexual alchemy. It’s a transforming process that vastly changes our inner structure; it makes it possible to very effectively get rid of egos (the subconscious) and to replace them with powerful spiritual feelings, which eventually dominate the feelings of the subconscious.
How do I get rid of lots of different negative thoughts that I’m not even aware of?
With self-observation you can see how you think, feel and react. By seeing this there is the opportunity to change inside; from undesirable states such as fear, to desirable ones such as peace. This changes the whole way you live your life.
It is necessary to be able to think and clear thought is a wonderful tool, but some thoughts can be harmful. Thoughts that arise from the subconscious egos are laden with feelings or emotions or distortions that keep returning compulsively. These are the kinds of thoughts you need to deal with. If you look for feelings attached to thoughts, you’ll be uncovering the source of many thoughts. The more you see, the more gets uncovered and so you gradually go through the esoteric work uncovering layer after layer of the subconscious, removing the egos as you go.
There are multitudes of thoughts each day and we have to think to live – so how can the harmful thoughts be sorted out from the harmless or useful ones?
Well, there are two main things to do simultaneously. Firstly, learn to be aware of the present moment, having the direction of thoughts upon what you are doing or what you need to think about. This gets rid of a lot of the chain of thoughts. Secondly, observe yourself.
Thoughts that are generated by undesirable subconscious states can be strong and compulsive. They have their root in emotions and feelings and these generate thoughts. Then in turn, the thoughts which later appear, themselves become triggers for these same emotions and feelings. So you think about what your neighbor said to you when he was angry and you get an emotion corresponding to that event, even though it’s just in your mind.
To get into this, observe emotions and feelings; they usually work beneath the process of thinking and trigger off thoughts. If a thought itself is a trigger, then it’s after its “feed” which is taken from the corresponding emotion.
Look at the underlying emotions that usually pass unnoticed and change them. By doing so you’ll get rid of the triggers for innumerable harmful thoughts.
