One night in 1992 I had my first out-of-body experience in the underworld, or hell, and I was quite shaken by it.
I was walking in a street near my old school and was conscious of being in the astral plane. As I looked around I saw a kind of a gap in the sky; it was a gap in space itself. Intuitively I felt that I should explore it and so I rose into the air. As I got close I could see demons guarding it on the outside. They had that classical grotesque demonic appearance and looked quite threatening, so I expelled them with a recitation and went into the slit in space which was like a mouth. It was noticeably dark inside, even though it was night-time and dark outside.
As I went in, I was suddenly in a corridor that sloped downwards. I walked down it and walking with me were the deceased. They came through continuously, just walking in the one direction with no notion to walk in any other direction and with no notion to communicate to each other.
I walked down the corridor for a short time with these people who seemed to be like sleepwalkers. Eventually I came to a series of tollgates or booths. Each person went to a booth, and someone stood at each booth and collected something from each person.
As the deceased passed through the tollgate they kept their human form but inside they were animals, just animals enjoying the resonance and feel of the egos – they vibrated with them making growls and groans as they walked from the toll area into the darkness beyond. They had given up to the toll collector what it was to be human, as it was only given for a short time; they passed through the gates as animals.
I also passed through a tollgate but gave up nothing as the toll collectors didn’t ask anything of me, and instead of walking into the entrance of the area of darkness where the deceased went, I went into one of several waiting rooms to the right. The light was strange and subdued and I felt the fear of being in that place. I knew that I was being shown my fate and humanity’s fate at the same time. I knew who could help me in that moment – the Being who out of love helps to bring souls up out of that abysmal place to give them another human life and another opportunity – Judas.
I called his name earnestly over and over and he came into the door. He was such an unimposing figure who irradiated a quiet kind of warmth; he was the sort of person who would pass unnoticed in the world. He said to me “You have to practice whether you like it or not.” I looked at him and responded with silence, but with a silence that communicated a reply, “Yes I have to.” Soon afterwards I came back to my body, and I knew that I had to do what I’d been told.
Ammit and the toll collectors
Years later I spoke to a woman who had a near-death experience (NDE). In it she passed through the jaws of a crocodile and found herself in a waiting room with other people. Someone came in and told her that she had to go back because it wasn’t her time yet. It’s quite possible that she went into the same, or the same kind of waiting room that I had been in.
The crocodile head she saw is a being that has been depicted in ancient Egyptian mythology and religion as Ammit – a female who has the head of a crocodile, the body of a leopard, and the hind of a hippopotamus. She was called the “devourer of the dead” who swallows up the deceased who are to enter hell; she is an aspect of the mother goddess who presides over the soul entering Hades and she is also depicted in other cultures by other names. She is also substituted in some cultures for the head of a dragon. The woman who had the NDE knew nothing about Egyptian mythology.
That slit in space I saw is the portal between different planes. The one into higher planes is experienced in NDEs as a tunnel with light at the end.
Years later I came across old European illustrations depicting what I had seen in the Mouth of Hell and discovered a couple of mentions of toll collectors in the Nag Hammadi Library book, in The Apocalypse of Paul and in The First Apocalypse of James, where to escape from the world we have to inevitably encounter the toll collectors:
“The Lord said to him, “James, behold, I shall reveal to you your redemption. When you are seized, and you undergo these sufferings, a multitude will arm themselves against you that <they> may seize you. And in particular three of them will seize you – they who sit (there) as toll collectors. Not only do they demand toll, but they also take away souls by theft.”
~ The First Apocalypse of James, translated by William R. Schoedel
I obviously wasn’t the first to travel there and come back.
Judas the advanced disciple
Judas wasn’t the evil figure that he’s generally believed to be. He didn’t betray Jesus out of negative intentions – he did it so that Jesus could fulfil his mission in showing humanity the path to awakening through the events of his life. Betrayal, unjust judgement, death to the world, and resurrection, are central to the process of the return of consciousness to its source. I’ve been through that part of the process myself and so I’m very aware of it. The events of Jesus’ life illustrate the stages of the path of awakening and Judas knew that it was essential for Jesus to go through the crucifixion, and to do that he had to be betrayed.
Betrayal is essential as it illustrates humanity’s betrayal not only of the Christ (The Spiritual Son) but of the clash between the things of the world and those of the spirit. The person going through this testing time has to give up attachment to the things of the world and put their volition and heart upon the things of the spiritual, as in this it is seen where their true heart lies. People turn away from the person, even trust, friendship, acclaim, and reputation are lost. They have to face abuse, condemnation, injustice and to the world they are destroyed, and it is the betrayer who is the instigator of all this. The Christ is the inner Christ and it’s those who have their inner Christ merged with their consciousness who go through this difficult process. Whoever successfully emerges from this test resurrects and is born again in spirit as an immortal being, not an immortal body, but an immortal spirit.
The case for the voluntary betrayal of Jesus by Judas is backed up by the discovery of the Gospel of Judas. It’s been proven to be an authentic early Christian text, which came to public attention in 2006 (I appeared on a couple of TV shows at the time discussing it).
And I also recommend The Flight of the Feathered Serpent by Armando Cosani for some excellent insights into Judas and his role.
The Gospel of Judas has pretty much faded away from the public eye now – Christians soundly condemned it and most people wouldn’t begin to wonder why he should have asked Judas to betray him, nor would they understand that there is a process of awakening that Jesus depicted with his life.
In the Gospel of Judas, Jesus elevates Judas amongst his disciples. He was talking to his disciples and took Judas aside and said to him:
“Step away from the others and I shall tell you the mysteries of the kingdom. It is possible for you to reach it, but you will grieve a great deal.”
~ The Gospel of Judas, edited by Rodolphe Kasser, Marvin Meyer, and Gregor Wurst
Later he reveals great mysteries to Judas and says to him:
“You will exceed all of them. For you will sacrifice the man that clothes me.”
~ The Gospel of Judas, edited by Rodolphe Kasser, Marvin Meyer, and Gregor Wurst
Jesus is giving Judas task, a role he has to fulfill and then finally at the end of the gospel Judas fulfills it and betrays him, but he was clearly doing Jesus’ will.
Some people have met Judas in hell in out-of-body experiences as he’s there voluntarily helping people to come out. He has awakened and has sacrificed his happiness in higher regions for the sake of others.
For most people, the existence or non-existence of hell is a belief, but the inferior dimensions are regions of existence that anyone can experience by having out-of-body experiences. Most people however, experience them by having nightmares.
Light and darkness exists in creation, and its gradient gives form to everything. For a higher plane of light there is a corresponding lower plane of darkness. Along my spiritual path I’ve carried out esoteric works that have their base in nine different higher planes; these correspond to the nine heavens which many ancient esoteric and spiritual texts refer to. These nine heavens have their corresponding lower planes, and are the base from where I have also carried out esoteric works.
The three-dimensional reality is the center point between the planes of light and darkness. What is physical has neither higher nor lower properties – it is simply a vehicle for what is in the nine heavens and nine hells to manifest within. It’s the point from which to ascend or to descend.
Hell has been called many names in the past such as the abyss, Hades, Tartarus, the Sheol, the underworld, Kuzimu, Narakam, Diyu and many others according to the civilization. People throughout history have given accounts of being there in out of body experiences, astral projection, and in near death experiences, and there are many scientific theories that give rise to the possibility and even probability of other dimensions or parallel universes existing.
Science is really behind human experience on this one though, as the existence of hell is non-physical. It’s difficult to find evidence of different dimensions, although the theory of different dimensions could explain movement and possibly existence at its smallest levels such as photons and quantum matter.
The human psyche in the three-dimensional world is limited to its five senses, and the universe we perceive through them is what we understand of existence. But when we leave the body and have an out-of-body experience we perceive without our three-dimensional body and we perceive things according to the region we are in.
There are many forms of light and vibration and some belong to the lower regions just as others belong to the higher ones. All the hells and heavens are right here and now and so too are their corresponding states within each human being. There are low, heavy, negative states and dark places and regions that people inhabit in dreams. Nightmares are a direct trip to the infra-dimensions.
There is an energy that goes from the coccyx bone into the lower regions. It’s been called the Kundabuffer and it’s the opposite of the Kundalini. It’s depicted as the tail on demons and it cycles lower energy and vibration from the lower planes into the human psyche and then sends it back down as energetic food for the lower regions.
The cycle of lives
Every human being is on a cycle of lives, which is sometimes referred to as the Wheel of Samsara. It’s possible to get off this cycle by meeting the esoteric requirements to get off it; it’s not that impossible to do it. Jesus referred to it as a circuit of lives in his teachings in the Pistis Sophia and refers to it many times. Here is one example:
“If while still in life they do not repent but remain persistently in their sin, and all the souls which have stayed behind without, that is those which have had the number of the circuits which are appointed them in the sphere, without having repented,–well, at their last circuit will those souls, they and all the souls of which I have just told you, be led out of the jaws of the tail of the dragon into the dungeons of the outer darkness.”
~ Pistis Sophia, translated by G. R. S. Mead
In the Pistis Sophia Jesus gives very lucid descriptions of what to expect between lives. It ties in perfectly with accounts of near death experiences. I don’t think that it’s possible for anyone who is even in the advanced stages of awakening to have such profound and consistent experiences as he did – it looks as though Jesus was born already enlightened and came to this world to fulfil a mission and that he retained his memory from before his birth, having long before attained the elixir of immortality.
Essentially, between lives people generally have experiences of heavens or hells, depending upon what needs to be learnt and upon the actions of one’s life (karma). Jesus in the Pistis Sophia explains that experiences between lives are temporary, so for example although someone spends time in hell, that time is temporary as it is for an allotted period only, and, when their time is up, they return to another life on the circuit.
That’s not the hell that I saw in this experience of going through the mouth of hell. What this was, was people who had finished this circuit of human lives, who did not get free of the wheel of lives, for whom devolution has begun.
You may occasionally come across accounts of near death experiences which actually are the final judgement, in which a person is judged and then enters, or goes to enter hell, but is given more time on earth and comes back to live out the extra years of life here.
An example of what could possibly be one such experience is here:
The people I saw were not coming back, they had finished this circuit of human lives and were returning in a devolving fashion on nature’s wheel. They were stripped of what was human, the human mind, and what remained was bestial only. That’s why they could only feel the vibrations of the egos and the only bodies they could have from then on would be those of beasts.
The human mind is a gift given to consciousness to endow it with the faculty of self-awareness and thus the ability to awaken. It’s what distinguishes the average person from an animal. When passing through the tollgates it’s given up because it has no further use.
There was no repentance in them, because there was no repentance in their previous lives and no willingness to change from an animal state to a spiritual one when they had a time as a human being on earth. They enjoyed the pleasures of the egos and their low vibrational states; they lived as animalistic people and now became animals.
The matter of the abyss is so important that everyone who has the opportunity should try to discover its existence by having out-of-body experiences. Doing this not only uncovers a profound aspect of the nature of reality, but it has an immense and lasting impact upon anyone who goes there.
