“Have you ever had one of those recurring nightmares where you’re being chased by a monster? 42% of us have a nightmare at least once a month. Researchers say dreams are random, just chaotic images that emerge as the brain goes through its daily housekeeping, but are we right to be so dismissive of that theory?”
Belsebuub talks about dreams and their meanings on BBC radio Northampton. From August 29th 2006.
I was pretty inspired at how much wisdom there was in Mark’s dream interpretation, and how so many people seem to be touched by incredible dream messages. I can’t imagine how many people fall short to understanding their dreams, as there are tons that seem very strange and unexplainable, thankfully many dreams, especially the recurring ones give us that push to want to find out.
But I know I would really be at loss without Mark’s dream guide, or the practical spiritual information from this site.
When I started listening to Mark’s Teachings, trying to find answers about them and what I should do, I remember having many recurring symbolic dreams. Actually from them dreams have played a basic pole in my life guiding my decisions many times and helping me understand things in me. Also it’s very important for me to ask and pray in order to get this kind of help. In the most difficult and painful situations, I also had more help from my dreams, from the past. But for me too all normal dreams can help me also, even bad or complicated subconscious dreams, or when I don’t see dreams for some period, because this works as is a alert alarm telling me something too.
Reading stories from the ancient Greek civilization I’ve seen how important dreams were for all people then and going to many ancient Greek sites I’ve seen that where there’s a Temple there’s also a place where they gave therapy through dreams then.
I too found it very interesting and was touched seeing how many people have symbolic dreams through these interviews.
Thank you deeply Mark for posting these interviews and for this continues help.
I was recently considering and realised, while half chuckling, how much help I already receive to even be able to connect to my dreams.
I used to think that help from higher forces in the astral was mainly found in the very obvious lucid experiences or very powerful and obvious symbolic messages. But I’ve since realised that even in our more normal dreams there’s often already an influence.
– We get help by being given the teaching or guidance there in the first place.
– I often notice even some help in being able to remember experiences, the memory given some ‘strength’ to make it through. (although this part definitely requires our own efforts as well.)
– Interpreting the meaning of symbols and teachings is up to us, but even there I feel I’m also often helped a lot with the right intuitive direction and understanding.
– And again when knowing the meaning (plus what that equates to in our life) we often need a lot of help to be able to act on it.
It seems it’s actually a bit like teamwork then? But it’s amazing really that we can actually start to live by that guidance from dreams instead of dreams just being something that happen ‘to us.’
I agree too that dreams are more than just the brain working things out over night. Many people said this to me in my younger years but something within me would just not accept this. Especially those dreams that were very vivid would convince me they were wrong. I mean those experiences that you can almost control the dream itself and I could feel when the dream ends, I’d go back to my body and open my eyes. Then looking around in the room would be very similar than when I was looking around in the dream. Later in life when I started looking more into dreams and found that ancient civilizations, like the Egyptians and even the bible references dreams and their importance. Today’s pure scientific view of dreams is just to limited for me.
I agree Roy, there is definitely quite a lot of evidence from ancient civilisations that they used dreams to progress spiritually. The Spiritual Sun website is a great place to access information about such ancient civilisation. On the site there are so many amazing ancient text and one that comes to mind on this topic is called “Learning During Sleep an excerpt From The Essene”. Truly heart felt and inspiring.

Going to sleep can be so magical and bring so much joy and happiness when used for spiritual development. I have no doubt that anyone can be capable of verify it’s true existence.
Definitely don’t think dreams can be just reduced to just mental images / subconscious. Like you said, verifiable dream premonitions are a pretty solid evidence of that. Also people dreaming of past lives and being able to verify details of what they had seen. Quite an interesting subject :) There was a period of my life that was very intense and turbulent (emotionally, physically, and just circumstances) and during that time I had the most incredible spot on dream premonitions and also a particular recurring dream — all a rather regular occurrence. Reading through my dream journal from that period in retrospect it all makes a lot of sense, though going through it the meaning of the recurring dream and also of the circumstances was a bit hard to grasp, so I’m super happy I kept track with that journal.
I can see when looking at the world today how the question: Do dreams actually mean something? is a pretty normal and legitimate one. In fact it already seems like a quite open-minded thing to ask.
However when studying dreams personally for some time it becomes more than obvious that they teach us a lot and that there’s genuine guidance there. (People’s attitude towards dreams as something which can contain ‘external’ messages has even changed a lot in the last 100 years apparently, as this BBC article, which is pretty good, mentions.)
I imagine in some cultures or distant times this fact was a lot more widespread among people. Knowing that the symbols shown had a great meaning and correlated to our lives, in showing the future for example.
In the ‘Gilgamesh Epic’ at an important point along their journey Gilgamesh and his companion Enkidu carry out specific rituals and prayers, and even build a special place to sleep in order to incubate Gilgamesh’s dreams with favourable omens. He then receives five impactful symbolic dreams which his friend Enkidu interprets as good signs.
I imagine some people in the past, such as the Egyptians or in India, took this very seriously and must’ve gone to great lengths to bring about favourable symbolic dreams.
Listening to the audio made me reflect on the effort that is put into correcting the issues raised in those dreams. The reality is that there is very little that dreams are actually used for in my life. I can tell that it’s a similar story for most people. This interview gives the same message because dreams are approached like a curiosity.
Reflecting on this just now I found it quite sad that this learning is so little valued. I also remembered the times of the Gnostic Movement where focusing on dreams as a group gave an extra motivation and reminder to do something about them, although I wish I had put more effort to learn from them back then too.
It’s so interesting to see the commonality of the dreams and experiences of the people in these different radio interviews. It’s pretty fascinating how people leading completely different lives can have the same experiences and symbology within their dreams. Thanks for posting these, it’s very inspiring to hear about these shared experiences.
I also found this interesting. It seems like everyone is getting this information, regardless of whether they are focusing on a spiritual work. And I guess this is a bond that everyone has, whether we speak about it openly or not.
Very nice short, but up to the point interview. It must be amazing for somebody like Mark, to be able to understand the symbolic language of his dreams so well. Its like a literacy in another language really! I find my dreams interesting too, and through the years I managed to intuitively understand some dream symbols and what they mean. Unfortunately, with some dreams, I only figured their meaning when it was too late. Other dreams, on the other hand, are quite straightforward, occasionally even using regular words (my feeling is that often these are influenced by the higher beings who try to help us in a lapidary way).
It is so inspiring to know that this symbolic language has been shared among different people during different ages, and even among other beings on other planets (with some adjustments I imagine, for example instead of “driving a car” symbol, they would have “driving a UFO” or something like that :-) ).
Thank you for another great talk, dreams are very special part of our lives and it is the part that I do not understand much.
When I was a child I did not hear talks abot dreams or how to interpret them. I never heard at school anything about dreams, and yet they are so important part of our life. Unfortunately to do not pay much attention to dreams resides inside of my mind until these days and I have feeling that I need to work on my dreams a lot more, to give them the right amount of attention and learn from them.
So it was very interesting to listen to Mark to talk about dreams again.
It’s incredible at the amount of radio talks which have been put up so far, I had no idea so many existed. Thanks again Belsebuub, great information.
I remember how in my early teens I would have strong or recurring dreams. Like a powerful and stern ‘knock on the door’, they were telling me it was something very important. But without knowing about the possibility and the tools to understand them better even these were soon forgotten once I jumped out of bed and, sandwich in my mouth, was hurrying to school.
Occasionally at other times I would have ‘warm’ spiritual experiences, and I wouldn’t want to leave that place and waking up to the horrible reality of my life was a bit jarring. Sometimes turning over and focussing on that feeling of the dream would take me back to a similar region or dream.
The information provided by Belsebuub on the matter of dreams and the astral travel has been amazing. The general dream symbols were also an essential ‘ABC’ for me to learn the language of dreams, from where many more symbols can be understood by studying our own dreams.
Thanks for another interview. I liked how the presenters were bursting into laughter like school kids at one point, haha.
I would also have many recurring dreams, mostly as a child. As a teenager, I didn’t remember them as much. But I remember I wanted to write them down but never did. Would have been interesting to read through them now :)
And yes, when I have those beautiful dreams I often wake up feeling disappointed that it was a dream, and not “real”. There can be so much beauty in the dream world, and I want to go back into it.
Hi. I liked listening to the clarity of marks answers. Also his responses were very apt.
Today, I spend some time looking into my dream diary over the last few years, and then listening to your talk inspired me to have a better meditation while falling asleep. There is a lot to learn there, looking forward for more clear, vivid, meaningful and lucid dreams.
Is it not incredible that our dreams can not only be an objective reflection of what`s going on inside our psyche, but also open the doors to extrasensory, advanced forms of experience, communication and learning?
Thanks a lot for uploading your talk! :) It was a short one, yet you still gave there some interesting and important information to reflect about.
